The October meeting was a challenge. Regardless, if you attended remotely or in person, it was far from perfect. The equipment that wasn’t working right is the ceiling—while we had witches’ hats, nobody brought a broom to fly up to investigate the problem. We’ve requested technical support from the church. We’ll reinforce where to stand for the remote camera.
Sara Collins, VP of media, found herself suddenly facing family medical needs and an exciting, challenging new work assignment. Sara is going to act as a technical resource. Stacey Procter has graciously moved from Finance to Media. Stacey is already hard at work. Both ladies have earned my appreciation and gratitude as we work through this transition. This is just one more example of why the guild needs 2 volunteers at each spot—life happens! Please step up (president@qgplano.org) if you want to get more involved and we’ll match you with a perfect spot.
Jackie Brown is such a creative force—I cannot wait to hear what she has to share. See you in November!

Guild Activities

Gobble.. Gobble! It’s almost turkey time, so bring 1 or 2 fall print or solid fat quarters to the November meeting. Participants will receive an activity sheet to play the Memory Game! Get a chance to win a bundle of fat quarters!
There will also be sign up sheets at the activities table for the December Holiday Party! What tasty treat will you be bringing? We want to know. It’s not too late to sign up for the Holiday Gift swap. If you would like to be on the holiday committee, please sign up at the November meeting. This committee will collect the Holiday snack sheets and coordinate the supplies & set up of the December Party.
It’s not too late to join the following activities: Kicking off Moda Blockhead 6 (16 participants);Holiday swap (7); April Apron(7); and Summer Block (6).
And at every meeting we will have Show and Tell to feature the wonderful works of art that our members have created. Quilts, bags, table runners, jackets and more…share and be inspired! We want to see all the holiday gifts you will be giving your loved ones.

If you have any questions, contact Donna Allenbaugh or Sally Pitre, Co-VP’s of Guild Activities, at activities@qgplano.org

Also we are planning new and fun demos for 2026. If you have any suggestions, ideas for a demo or would like to present a demo at one of our guild meetings. Please stop by our table and let us know.

Wow, what a program we had in October! Dee Bushrod shared her amazing story going from novice quilter to the Queen’s pixel quilter.

November brings us another fabulous speaker. Jackie Brown will be sharing her love of design and long arm quilting in her trunk show presentation, Evolution. We all had a chance to see her amazing work in the 2025 Plano Quilt show as she quilted Linda Neal’s quilt “A Calm Day at Sea” winning Best of Show.

In December we have our annual holiday celebration and will have a short program presented by Donna Petrick sharing with us the importance of blocking quilts.
It’s never too early to start planning which workshop you will attend in 2026 (if not all of them)! Block your calendars now and register to reserve your spot. Workshops make great Christmas gifts too!

Community Service

In November we are collecting infant items for the PISD School-Age Parent Program. We accept small quilts, receiving blankets, clothes, newborn toys and diapers. The challenges of teen pregnancy while in high school can be helped by your donations. The students earn credits to purchase the baby items we provide. Thank you for your donations!

The Community Service team is up and running! We are in need to have about 75 quilts long armed! If you have a long arm, please come help us with this mission.
We have been given fabric and sewing supplies that are too small for our needs, so please come look into our scrap basket we have on our table each month. Take home a small treasure!
Big thank you for all the pillowcase kits going out as we do give one out with each adult size quilt we give to our organizations.
And we would love to see more of the Mission (Not) Impossible quilts. We have kits ready for pickup if you would like to do one–or more!
Please go to our website/activities/community service and down to Organizations Supported by Our Guild to see the list of where our donations are given.
Come sew with us, pick up and drop off kits/quilts/bindings/pillowcases at the meeting or at the Sit & Sew Day on Nov.11.
Visit our table at the meeting and get to know some of our helpers at the meeting–thanks to Nancy Simpson and Carol Esch for helping in Oct. And to Linda Benson–who will be delivering to PISD later this month.

Quilts of Valor

The East Plano Rotary Flags of Honor is an amazing week-long celebration at the Red Tail Pavillion. The Quilts of Valor presentation is at approximately 2 pm, Saturday, November 15th. It’s open to the public. We follow the Patriot Paws Service Dog Demonstration—the dogs will amaze you!
Three veterans were wrapped with Quilts of Valor in private ceremonies in October. Every recipient always asks that the makers of their quilt be thanked. Please know your efforts are deeply appreciated and cherished.
