Small Groups

Quilting Bees

Small Groups (or Quilting Bees) are a great way to get together with other quilters in a more intimate and informal atmosphere for friendship, conversation, and quilting. They make attending our monthly meetings more enjoyable, as you will begin to recognize familiar faces. Anyone can set up a small group. Each group decides its size and focus. The Beekeeper is available to help members with similar interests or locations find each other. If you are interested in forming a group or adding members to your group, email the beekeeper@qgplano.org. She will contact you and help connect you with other members.

Open Small Groups - Now Meeting in Person!

Art Quilters of Plano (AQOP)

The Art Quilters of Plano meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 9:00am at Fabric Fanatics. There are no membership requirements—simply an interest in Art quilting and a desire to learn. Our typical meeting starts with sharing our completed artwork, often employing a technique or challenge from a previous meeting. We follow that with a demo or workshop provided by our members.

Contact Rose-Clair Fletcher or Aurora Chancy for more information. You can also visit our Facebook page.

Open Small Groups - Now Meeting Via Zoom!

Members wishing to join a small group are invited to attend these open groups:

Featherweight Fellowship Groups

If you have a Singer Featherweight and are interested in learning more and sewing together, we are having our meetings on Zoom at 1pm on both the 3rd Saturday of the month and the 4th Friday. Those who have not previously notified me, please email Jeanne Vogel to get the invitation to join the Zoom meeting.

Chicks with Feathers—3rd Saturdays @ 1-3pm — (Formerly meeting at Sunrise of Plano.) We sit and sew together, problem solve and educate.

Featherweight Friends—4th Fridays @ 1-3pm — (Formerly meeting at Best Little Retreat Center in Texas.) We have an educational component while we sew.

Hoop It Up Group

Hoop It Up!

Come join us for a machine embroidery Zoom meeting.  Contact Donna Petrick – donna.petrick16@gmail.com to get the link for the monthly meeting on the third Thursday each month from 10:00 am to 11:am.

We share ideas and hints as well as sew during the call.  We are working on our challenge for the QP2024 show.

Free Motion Quilting Group

Need a little motivation to practice free motion quilting for a few hours a month? During this Zoom meeting, we will actually be practicing our free motion quilting. Some initial ideas are to provide one beginner and one intermediate/advanced design or exercise for those that want to follow along, and have other members free motion on their own. We can share our samples and also have tips, tricks, and help discussions. Any and all ideas are welcome! The first session will be on Monday, October 27 at 1 pm. The group can decide on a day, time, and frequency for the meetings at our first session. Please send an e-mail to Monica Hendewerk so that she can send you the Zoom link if you are interested.

Worker Bees Group

We are buzzing with excitement to start this new group! Held via Zoom on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30pm, this small group is a great fit for anyone with time available in the evenings. This group will include ANY type of quilting activity—piecing, hand quilting, machine quilting, embroidery, you name it. The name of our game is friendship and fellowship around our virtual quilting circle. Contact Sharon McGinnis at sharon.mcginnis@verizon.net to be added to the roster and a Zoom link will be sent out the day before each meeting. Any questions can also be directed to Sharon.

Pieceful Organizing Group

Sarah Krauss and Jeanne Vogel learned some skills they would like to share with others in getting sewing supplies organized. They are not claiming to be professional trainers but learned how fun working together on a specific organizing area for a specific time in a group setting can be. Social organizing is more fun than going solo! In the group there will be:

  • No judgement
  • No criticism
  • No apologies
  • Support and inspiration

No commitment—pop-in for an hour once or join every month for an hour or more. We will meet every 3rd Wednesday at 1pm starting February 17th. Contact pickincotton26@verizon.net for an invitation.
