Letter from the President – Carolyn Cosgriff
It’s amazing how many activities are swirling around the guild! The big event in February is the Annual Retreat late this month at Tanglewood Resort. The registration deadline is just a few days away.
The February meeting is packed! The participants in the Moda Blockheads 6 Challenge are showing off their work. Learn how to make a scrappy heart block pillow at the education table.
The Quilt Show Committee is celebrating Friendship month by treasuring Renee Burson who designed and pieced “Dazzling Dahlia,” our 2026 Raffle quilt. This gorgeous quilt was quilted by Richard Larson. Susan Brubaker Knapp is presenting “The Artist in You.” I’m going to catch her Quilting Arts podcast before the meeting–my inner artist wants to peek out.
Thanks to the MANY who took Shop: Bag or Roll kits to make Community Service projects. Bags will be available again at the February meeting. Bring your finished top to the June meeting and the guild volunteers will get it quilted. Making a dent in the Community Service fabric stash is one of our goals for this year. Don’t forget the Community Sew Day, February 10th.
See you soon!
Please email president@qgplano.org if interested in learning more.

Quilt Plano Show 2026 — Carol Truscott
August 14-15, 2026!
Celebrations:
We have a new Co- Chair- Deb Merrill
She is a wonderful addition to our team!!
February is Friendship month! As is our tradition, please help me show our appreciation to Renee Burson for creating/piecing “Dazzling Dahlia” our 2026 Raffle quilt. This gorgeous quilt was quilted by Richard Larson.
Now is also the time to be thinking about the 2028 Raffle Quilt- If you or your small group is interested in making our 2028 raffle quilt, please see Carolyn, our president, for more information or to submit your ideas.

Brags:
Did you know that our Best of Show for 2025~”A Calm Day At Sea” by our very own Linda Neal was accepted into AQS Paducah!!
Martha Wolf has done an excellent job with creating our bookmarks and raffle tickets!
Ashley has done a fantastic job creating our logo and Mary Alice and Debbie B. are working away on getting our vendors and sponsors registered. Lorelle and Virginia are busy selling our raffle tickets. Sadly, Lorelle has had to step away for a while as her husband is working in Houston the first part of this year. Our media team (Bonnie and Roxy) are already working their magic!! These two always amaze me!!
Mini Quilts- Kaye and Valerie- You both do such a great job with these!! Support their efforts by submitting your minis early. Take a look at some of our amazing minis from last year’s show. You know you want to be a part of this!

Couldn’t forget about our committee show t-shirts- Fran has sorted shirts and is ready for committee members to pick up their shirts. Beautiful Show shirts are available for purchase. Some sizes are running low so be sure to get yours soon!

To honor the Semiquincentennial celebration of the United States, the Quilters
Guild of Plano will feature a special judged category for the Quilt Plano 2026
show sponsored by the James Billingsley Chapter of the National Society of
the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Guild Activities – Donna Allenbaugh & Sally Pitre
Thank you to everyone who supported our Community Service “Shop”: Bag or Roll” Challenge! We have 45 participants signed up to make a quilt top – some even picked up two bags! We can’t wait to share the creativity of our members at the March meeting!
Imagine four days of uninterrupted sewing, laughter with quilting friends, and finally making progress on those long-awaited projects. Participants are welcome to bring their Community Service Challenge projects to the Annual Retreat, February 26 through March 1. If you finish your WIPs, we’ll have extra kits available. Get ready for a FUN, extended weekend!
At the February meeting, we invite all participants in the Moda Blockheads 6 Challenge to share their projects. We had 17 members participating. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn new techniques and expand your block pattern library.
The next challenge will be the April Apron Challenge. Sign up at the Activities table.
Contact: Donna Allenbaugh and Sally Pitre, Co-VPs of the Guild Acitivites at activities@qgplano.org with any questions.

Education – Debbie Burns and Deanna Tucker

We have planned some helpful tips, fun blocks and creative sewing and quilting demos for 2026.
At the January meeting, we had a great demo given by Dianne Cronenberg. She presented the Missouri Star Block and shared an innovative technique with disappearing blocks that used half square triangles.
February’s demo is a scrappy heart block pillow. Stop by and say hello and learn a new fun and easy block.
If you have any suggestions, ideas, or would like to present a demo, please stop by the Education table and let us know.

February is here! Kim and I are so excited to start welcoming our guests and hosting the 2026 workshops! This month we will be joined by Susan Brubaker-Knapp host of Quilting Arts TV & Podcast. She will be sharing with us her journey from traditional quilter to quilt artist. I can’t wait to be inspired to try new things and branch out of my quilting comfort zone!
Please remember to sign up for the upcoming workshop that catches your eye. We are seeing a pickup in registration activity and want to be sure your seat is reserved.
Also, you may notice our March workshop schedule has been modified to only one day, Friday March 13th, for Thread Painting. Since participation was low for the second day, we felt it best to be mindful of our guild budget and cancel the second day. If you signed up for the Saturday workshop you will be hearing from us regarding reimbursement.
March – Joyce Hughes presenting Dimensional Thread Painting & Sketch, Color and Quilt, March 13th and March 14th.
April – Rob Appell presenting Quilts from the Sea and Beyond April 10th and April 11th.
June – Allie McCathren presenting Seaglass Quilting June 12th.
October – Diane Harris presenting StarQuar Scrap Quilts October 9th and Fowl Play a three October 10th.
Check out the details for these workshops or register at https://www.qgplano.org/activities/programs/ or stop by the Programs table to check out the other 2026 offerings. We look forward to chatting with you!

Community Service – Jeanne Vogel and Susie Luttrell

In January we started giving out the kits for the Guild Activities! We have one top already turned in! This activity will provide the guild numerous tops, so if you have backing to match in your stash, that would be great if you would make that also – or make the binding out of your leftover strips!
The Plano Community Homes https://www.planocommunityhome.org/ are in need of 30 quilts for their residents in Plano and in Denton so that is the next of 30 quilt donations we will be doing.
We are partnering with the Transition Resource Action Center (TRAC) of Dallas and Ft Worth. TRAC supports young people ages 16–24 who are transitioning from foster care into adulthood. Serving youth across a 19-county region of North Texas: Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, Collin, Ellis, Cooke, Parker, Johnson, Hood, Erath, Palo Pinto, Somervell, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, and Rockwall counties. About 86% of all the youth served come from Tarrant, Dallas, Collin and Parker County.
They are helping more than 1,500 young people each year access housing, education, employment, and life skills. About 70% of the young women they serve are pregnant or parenting by the age of 21, many welcoming their first child while building a stable home for the first time.
TRAC is assembling New Parent Kits to support these young families, and would love to include a handmade baby quilt in each one. Their goal is to collect 50 baby quilts each year. So visit our Community Service table to pick up a baby quilt kit.
Also visit our table each meeting to pick up notions/fabrics that Community Service is passing on to our members.
