Judging

Nancy Fuka

Nancy Fuka, NACQJ

Nancy started sewing when she was a small child and has been quilting since about 1982. After taking that first quilting class, she just couldn’t stop taking more and more classes and making more and more quilts and quilt tops. Nancy says she can’t pick a favorite quilt technique or quilting specialty because she loves them all! She is an NACQJ Certified Quilt Judge who has judged local, regional, and international quilt shows. She also teaches and lectures on various quilting topics. Not content to stay idle during the pandemic, Nancy made over 3,000 face masks for friends, family, and Operation Bandana New Mexico and now has a giant pile of leftover fabric. Coincidentally, for the last year or so, she has enthusiastically embraced the art of scrap quilting, though it has yet to significantly reduce the giant pile of scraps.

Sherry Massey

Sherry Massey, NACQJ

Sherry Massey began quilting in 1980. Countless quilts later, she is honored to be Oklahoma’s first NACQJ Certified Judge. She is a member of the Edmond Quilt Guild and has served as the Edmond Quilt Festival chairman and most recently as judging coordinator, a job that is both educational and rewarding. She’s had quilts juried into the Paducah Fall show and the Houston International Quilt Show. She is also a proud member of a small group that makes quilts for Boys’ Ranch Town, a working ranch that provides a home for boys separated from their families.

As a certified quilt judge, Sherry’s aim for each show is to utilize her experience and training to provide objective, encouraging, and constructive critiques of all quilts submitted. One of her primary goals is to recognize creativity and skill and offer unbiased advice on future design choices where applicable. She participates in judging with passion and enthusiasm and her
philosophy is to uphold NACQJ standards and ethics, continue her personal and professional education, and participate in positive advancement of our craft.
